DVD/VCD Slide Show Suggestions

Howdy
Can someone give me some good, quick suggestions to creating a slideshow on DVD or VCD to play in the DVD player? I have about 1000 photos and I want to make a nice cool looking slide show to show in TV. I was using iDVD until it freaked out. It worked soooo slow, then froze the computer while burning. I'm not a happy camper about that and I don't have access to iDVD for another 4 hours to open and try to re-burn the files.

i've thought of keynote or dvd studio pro but can i create cool slideshows easily?
