DVDs not showing up on desktop

All of a sudden, DVD movies are not showind up on the desktop. When I opened up Disk Utility, the DVD showed as "unformatted". I know these discs are perfectly fine bacause they play in my PC as well as in my DVD player. What do I need to do?
 
Your DVD drive in your Mac maybe going. To see if it is software then first try to reset your Pram. If that doesn't fix it then goto the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and put the file in your trash. Then reboot.

If neither these steps fix it then consider the drive maybe going.

One last thing, are these disks store bought DVD movies?
