E-mail transfer to newer osx

Old Mac book PRO died on me the other day, so
Its Hard drive was taken out and put into à usb Shell.
However when Trying to access mail With
My new PRO, it says This osx Cant read This version Of
Apple mail... What do i do to copy contacts and emails to
New computer??

On the new drive did you format it in OS Extended (GUID Partition Table)?
