Emac HD

Ok, since I upgraded my RAM I'm keen to improve on my emac even more ! So i'm thinking about upgrading to harddrive to a Seagate 120GB. I just have a few questions beforehand ! will any HD work in my emac? I think I remember a friend telling me that they'll only use ATA drives, is this right? The seagate I've found is an, 'Ultra ATA/ 100' would this one be ok? The actual model number is ST3120026A-RK

If all is well with my drive choice. Question 2 ! How hard is it installing a new harddrive in an emac? I've done it before on a PC and got help transfering stuff from the old drive using the 'piggy backing' method by using an IDE cable is this possible with macs?

Yep, that drive will work.

Depending on which eMac you have, here are two tech documents illustrating the take-apart:

And yes the piggybacking method should work, just hook it up to the CD drive's IDE cable - jumper settings shouldn't be a problem as the eMac has two individual IDE channels (one for the optical drive and one for the HD).

Yea, that looks pretty difficult from here. Plus if I mess it up my warranty is void ! I think I'll look at some external drives. Do the same rules apply though? ATA drives only?
