and say mail could not be sent, it seems the mail however is arriving

how can i solve the problem

The first step to solve it is to share a little more information. Like ...

  • Machine
  • Version of Mac OS
  • Mail program (Apple Mail?)
  • Internet connection
Was mail working OK before? Did something change? Give us something to go on.

Error -17099 is an Entourage error kSMTPServerReplyErr, and is returned when the SMTP server has returned a permanent or transient error or returns an unexpected result code.

This error is coming from your ISP.
