I had an Encore/ST G4 purchased a year and 1 half ago, that died. Actually, it fried. I sent it back to Sonnet under warrenty, and sent a new processor. This is the 1.0 GHz model. The old G4 was an AGP 450, and I had a friend give me a AGP G4 400 to use till we got the other processor up again. (Kids computer mainly)
When I got the new card, I checked the firmware, and updated to the latest. When booting, it stayed on the whiling cicle with Apple screen indefinitely. I tried holding shift key, booting from install startup disk, nothing works. When I put the 400 original card in, it boots fine, and if I set startup to OS 9, then shutdown, and put in the new processor, it starts fine, and shows new processor. It simply won't start in OS X (10.3.9)
I did a memory test with MEMTEST, and did it in single user mode, and found no problems with my ram. I'm in touch with Sonnet Tech support; but nothing resolved yet,
Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on?
