enqueuing in iTunes...

new palylist, starting with the song you want to start with. any tracks you want to enqueue, you just stick in the playlist.

is that really the only way? Do other folks see this as a major oversight?

not really. in winamp, it does the same thing really. (the first song you play is really the first song of a new playlist, enqueuing merely adds more songs to this new playlist). iTunes is just less reliant upon playlists as a working method.
