Entourage 2008 - error 17099

When sending email, I get the following error message:
Error
Sender verify failed
Explanation
Mail could not be sent

I tried restarting Entourage, deleting all outbox messages (moving them to Drafts), composed a new simple one-line message but no luck.

then I simply verified database integrity, restarted entourage and it started working all of a sudden.

What could be causing this issue? This is the first time it happened and I had already sent several emails today before it suddenly occurred.

Entourage is famous for using a central database with all the email, settings, etc. in one file. So once on while it is smart to use the built-in "Rebuild Database" to keep this database from growing to big and going out of control, this seems normal.
