I issued the following command in a terminal.
find / -name '*German*' | xargs rm -rf
I read in another forum that I could get 300+ mb back if I deleted all the foreign language support stuff that is installed by default in OS X.
However, when I did this, immediately, everything froze, and I had to do a remote SSH login to get the system to do a shutdown -r now.... but when it rebooted, I got the flashing system folder icon, and it eventually booted into OS 9.1. Now I cannot choose the X partition as my startup disk anymore...
Anyone have any suggestions?
