I am backing up all of my music files to an external drive. I often run into an "error code -36" which will not allow me to continue copying the files. Is there a way to scan for corrupt mp3 files?
I am using an iBook G4 using OS X 10.4.11. The external drive is a Seagate FreeAgent Desktop formatted as a FAT32 system.

Likely the error is because the drive is formatted as FAT32.

Do the files that will NOT copy have any characters other than alphanumeric characters in the name? Are they particularly long filenames?

If you wish to use the drive solely with Macintosh computers and do not need to use the drive with Windows computers, I would highly recommend reformatting the drive as HFS+. Be aware that formatting erases all data, so you'll need to back up the data on the drive if you wish to keep it.
