"Error Opening Movie" with a .mpg file...

I downloaded this movie and it's a .mpg, but when I click to open it with quicktime 7, I get

"Error Opening Movie"
This Movie Could Not Be Opened



What do I do? Do I need a codec? How do I install codecs? and from where??

Or, you could use this free player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Even with all the plugins QT still doesn't open some of my mpeg files. Perian.org is a useful all-in-one codec..but still doesn't play everything like VLC does.
