whenever i send an email with an attachment using eudora, it sends two files one of which is the original file and the other is a small file which has nothing but junk in it.

Hmm, Eudora supports a few different encodings for attachments. For most files "AppleSingle" is fine, but for files with resource forks (such as Classic applications) you should either compress them with Stuffit first or use "AppleDouble" encoding.

I'm curious, what is the name of this second small file with junk in it?

Uncheck the "Always include Macintosh information" option under Special/Settings/Attachments.
