Evil installers

Is there a way to lock the mode of a particular file or directory, so that it cannot be changed by the normal chmod procedure? I'm very sick of installers that set / to be group writeable, and as a result, render sendmail incapable of starting. It's rather sloppy for an installer to need to chmod the root directory anyway.

I don't know about solving your problem, but I agree that the .pkg installer is an evil thing. It clobbers permissions and symbolic links. In the case of the 10.0.x upgrades, it's incapable of upgrading apps in /Applications if they've been moved into sub folders. Yuck.
