Excessive Bookmark Files For Firefox

It appears that firefox creates a new copy of bookmarks.html every time the browser starts.

These files are in
username/library/application support/firefox/profiles/xxxxxxxx.default

The actual bookmarks.html file is updated each time I use the browser and then a copy is made(in addition to the bookmarks.bak file).

I have deleted many of them, always leaving the most current and this seems to cause no harm.

What are all these files ?

This problem only happens on a non-administrator account.

To solve this problem Disable Spotlight indexing for the Firefox folder (using the Privacy tab in the Spotlight preference pane), and it won't happen again.
