Explorer 5.5?

In Windows there is no other browser I will use. But in OS X, I don't like it. Granted it definitely crashes on me less than any other browser and some sites will only display properly in it, but it is definitely lacking a lot of functionality. I have really come to appreciate the cocoa-ness of OmniWeb and such, but I really am looking forward to this supposed IE update.

You've never crashed it?! Holy cow. I use it all the time, being a web designer, and i crash it at least once a day.

I don't mind IE, but I use Chimera as much as possible (the latest release has turned out to be the flakiest for me). I like chimera because there are no delays in drawing new windows, it has the aqua look and it has my favorite Mozilla feature: tabbed browsing.

Tabbed browsing is enough to get me to use Mozilla over IE. However, sometimes I just want to open something in a new window. In thie case, cmd-shift click on IE will open a link in a new *background* window. Mozilla lacks this which drives me nutty.

Chimera on the other hand has this cmd-shift click feature *and* tabbed browsing and it has the look and feel of Mail.app which makes it feel like it belongs more than any other browser. :D

Even at this stage, Chimera rocks and it will only get better!

Oh, I should mention that the two big reasons I finally went full-time to OmniWeb were:

1. After adding the ad filters to /etc/hosts IE was the only browser that would sit there until it timed out before it would display the pages. All others displayed right away with broken images, as they should have.

2. IE would often decide it didn't want to display images and continue like that until I quit it and restarted it. I know others have seen this too.

IE has done that to me too. It will just stop loading images for no reason at all. But I do not have to quit it to fix the problem.

"...lacking a lot of functionality..."

what do you mean by that?

It's kinda crap with standards too. I used to use it to test my website, but then I looked at my site in Mozilla and Chimera and it didn't look as good - there was some stuff which only worked in IE, which was retarded. The standards were not the same. I changed some stuff around and now most everything works in all three.

Plus it's damn slow.

quoting thinksecret: "Key areas of concern, Browne said, include performance, privacy, security, and web rendering that's on par with IE for Windows."

If this is true, IE 5.5 will be the best browser period, for good, killing mozilla, chimera, and omniweb, and netscape for good, period. Period. Forever.

Because if rendering is on par with IE for Windows it will be the fastest on the planet. Right now the fastest is chimera, hands down. Nothing is faster than Chimera except Windows IE.

I doubt it. It's a lie.

Even if it's *not* going to be exactly as fast. IE has its compliance to standards, it also feels much more light-weight than mozilla, for example. With 10.1.5 it will have Quartz Antialiasing. IE 5.5 will - as sad as it is - rock. It will rock Mozilla because Moz feels like goo as an application (would you consider Photoshop a good application if the app felt like that, the interface?), it will rock Chimera because that's still buggy as hell and lacking features (come on, please...), it will rock OmniWeb because of standards compliance. The one feature it probably *won't* have is tabs.

Is that IE5.1 in 10.1.5 that'll have Quartz anti-aliasing or IE5.5 in 10.1.5?

That will be a major boost!

Thank god! some people agree with me. I have M$, but IE IS the best browser. It works the best with most sites, it feels and looks the best. I wish there were better browsers, but what are you gunna do ?
