expose and spaces activation keys

Hi all

I'm running Leopard and have both Expose and Spaces enabled. Spaces is tied to the F8 key and Expose is tied to F9 - F11 (pretty standard).

F11 works just fine but my problem lies with F8 - F10.

Instead of invoking Spaces or performing the appropriate Expose action for those buttons, I just get the small grey window for the brightness action.

If I go to System Preferences | Keyboard & Mouse | Keyboard Shortcuts however, F8 - F10 are assigned to Spaces/Expose.

Is there anywhere else I should be checking to reassociate these keys so they function as desired?

Is this a laptop by chance?

The laptop keys are controlled by the fn key in the lower left corner. There is an option of how it should work. You can have fn+F8 be sent up the normal path and F8 be the special function marked on the key cap or you can reverse that.
 
It is a laptop.
Figured it out though. In System Preferences | Keyboard & Mouse | Keyboard the "Use all F1, F2, etc keys as standard function keys" needs to be enabled.
