Expose question

I'm not sure if this is possible, but can you change expose so that when you open an application or file when all the windows are hidden away (F11) that the windows stay hidden? It would be much easier so I could open multiple kinds of files in different places while still having all my programs running in the background. I'm willing to use third party software or any means so I can do this.

By the way, I am using OSX version 10.3.9

If I understand what you mean, it sounds like you would like VirtueDesktops, which allows you have have multiple desktops at the same time. VirtueDesktops is pretty much the same thing as Apple's own spaces, which will come with Leopard (if you're not sure what VirtueDesktops does, watch the spaces demo, as it works in the same way as VirtueDesktops)
 
There's a "Show All' menu item, which you can set your own keyboard shortcut in System Prefs > Keyboard and Mouse.
