Please help.

My USB external drive is no longer mounting under 10.1.2 even when connected directly to my cube (as opposed to my USB hub). It had been mounting without any problems for months while connected to my hub under 10.1.1.

I can't remember if it ever mounted since my updating to 10.1.2.

The drive was originally formated in 9.2.1 using the "erase" command in Finder.

Any ideas?

does it still mount when connected to the hub? i had the wierdest problem with my old usb cdrw that it would be recognized plugged into hub, but not directly into the imac.

my best suggestion to you is to run a good diagnostic and repair program on the system disc. then on the usb disk. and then maybe the system disk again if that doesn't work. when i had my firewire drive go down after a power outage, the only thing that brought it back was running diskwarrior on my internal hd.

note - do not use a norton product on this unless it is all you have. especially do not use the beta.

Hi Ed. Thanks for taking the time. : )

The drive no longer mounts while connected to my hub OR directly to my cube, but it does mount in both cases if I re-start under 9.2.1.

Are the latest version of Diskwarrior or Tech Tool Pro able to diagnose and repair an OS 10.1.2 system disk? Also, should I run these apps on the system disk while my USB disk is connected or disconnected? Would that make a difference?

yes, both work fine with 10.1.2 in my experience. i would run them with the drive plugged in. the problem is most likely on the system disk but i would fix both while i was at it. one advantage of diskwarrior, if you are having any recognition problems while using it, launch disk warrior first, then plug in the drive. diskwarrior has this amazing ability to find it.
