Sometimes when I turn on a mac, suitcase will load and then the wheel never stops spinning. It can do this all day and never go anywhere. What kind of solutions can someone help me with I've been google'ing all day.

All OS are tiger, and sorry if this is the wrong place. I'm new to this forum.

Force quit the application (apple+alt+esc).

Is your system + Extensis up to date? (sys. versions)
Since when does this happen? From the beginning or from recently?
Are you using an admin or non-admin user?
Where is Extensis located?

How many fonts do you have?

Try deleting suitcase preferences. Quit Suitcase, then go to your home folder's preferences folder(Users/yourname/Library/Preferences). Locate and delete:

com.extensis.suitcase.plist
Suitcase Preferences (not Suitcase Prefs-Old)
Launch it again - any difference?

If it's not suitcase preferences, I'd troubleshoot the fonts next.

Ditch Suitcase for the free Linotype Font Explorer if you can:
http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer

The app is free and best of all it's way more stable than Suitcase. It has font management options and can even clean your system fonts folder of all but the necessary fonts. This lightens the load on your system and you can choose to load only the necessary fonts first.

Make sure you are loading fonts directly from your hard drive, in any event, and not from a server. Speeds load time.

My school is using Suitcase X1 with OS X 10.4.9, happens all the time.. "Suitcase is initializing..." is as far as it gets.
Usually happens on non-admin computers (all students except me and a few others can't use admin)
It's located in the applications folder.
A lot of fonts, somewhere around 800.

Thanks for replies! Will talk to teacher about Linotype Font Explorer.

I tried to reply to your post by quote, twice, and for some reason it didn't show up..

We have 1,716 fonts here in my schools graphics shop.
Suitcase X1 and OS X 10.4.9 (30ish computers)

Showed my teacher Linotype and he is considering changing since Suitcase doesn't even seem worth fixing every time it messes up, on a bunch of computers..

Thanks for the replies!
