external disk to be used between mac and PC

I have a big problem. Well, seems big to me but may be small to you experts out there.

I just bought an external disk and i have just found out that I have to reformat it to be used in the mac. However, I need to use the external disk for both mac and PC as I have a mac and work is pc based.

any help out there?

Format it on a Windows machine as "FAT32" and it will be usable both under Mac OS X and Windows.

There are some limitations on the FAT32 format, though, like the 4GB filesize limit and certain naming restrictions.
 
You can also format it on the Mac, though. Perfectly capable of creating FAT32 volumes. ;)
 
thank you so much for the help. I might partition the hard disk then one for MAC and PC and one exclusive for Mac.
