External Drive Problem

Hello,
I have a Maxtor 3200 that I reformatted to OS X with the help of information on this board. I have been using it to save my music files and photos. It was working great but all of a sudden it will not let me save or transfer any files larger that a simple spreadsheet. Every time I try to save anything larger, it freezes up and usually crashes. I have plenty of space left on the disk. I have tested the drive using the disk utility and it has found no errors or problems. I've even changed the cable I am using. Any suggestions on what else I can try is most appreciated! Thanks!
 
Silly question, but try swapping your hub and HD ports on your mac.

I've had issues like this with external hard disks as well, usually related to powered hubs. The most likely scenario is that the port is faulty. The next most likey scenario is that your hard drive is defective (i.e., it doesn't write files bigger than the size of the write buffer ;)
