External DVD Burner OS 10.1.5 - HELP

On my G4 800MHZ Power PC I run OS 10.1.5 while running OS 9 in the background - I never upgraded my system out of FEAR - I publish 2 monthly magazines and have never been crazy enough to take the step.

I have just encountered a HUGE PROBLEM because my superdrive has decided not to burn any type of DVD I have purchased - I HAVE PURCHASED THEM ALL. and it just does nothing when I put the disk in. What I am hoping to find is an external DVD burner that will run using OS 10.1.5 - I am happy burning through the finder - I do not need any fancy software just a drive that will work and allow me to mount the DVD so I can drag and drop files.

I have searched the web and am so unsure what to purchase. Does anyone have any good advice? It would be ideal if I could walk into a local store any just BUY it. Any information will be GREATLY appreciated!

Hi c8ter2me - is this a repost or one I've encountered on another forum? I replied to it but can't find it right now.

In my reply I suggested two things, 1) upgrading your OS (will leave that for now); and 2) a burner recommendation.

Because you're using an older OS X, you may well have to go with an older external DVD writer. I suggested the Pioneer 105D which you'd probably need to buy 2-hand from eBay or similar. Pioneer brand works very well with Mac.

I warmly recommend OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/ They specialise in Mac-related and Mac-compatible hardware. You may find you can post your OS and burner question directly to them. Good luck.
