External Hard Drive Not Showing in Finder

Does anyone have any idea why an external hard drive would show up on the desktop but not in the Finder? I've rebooted twice to no avail and have also run the Repair Permissions utility. I can work this way obviously but something is obviously wrong and I want top get to the bottom it.
 
That worked. But what is still very strange is that I had five external usb hard drives attached and four of them showed in the sidebar of the finder but the one did not. I went to the Preferences and Show These Items in Sidebar options. The hard disks had a negative mark in it. I put a check mark in it and the drive appeared. Why would the other drives show up if the preference wasn't checked to show them. Very strange and it reminds me of the things Windows does.

Don't know why this happens. I don't have any external drives so I can't check it, but if you have more than one, it may be an option of only showing certain drives.
