External Hard Drive Problem on G4 Powerbook

Hi there,

I just purchased a ICY BOX IB-351 series External hard drive, so i can transfer some of my larger files to the drive and free up some space on my G4 Laptop.

Apparently there is no need for installing the drivers that come with the ICY BOX as i am on os x.3.9 I connected the leads supplied to the drive to power it and then attached the usb cable to my laptop, the (untitled) drive icon appears on my desktop fine, but i cannot drag any files to it. Also i cannot change it from being called (untitled) either.

When i click apple i it says i can read only the disk. ????

So i take some advise from the help menu and open Disk Utility, i click the drive in the menu on the side, but all the options to erase or anything else are greyed out and cannot be clicked!

What can I do? The Icy box says it is compatible with MAC OS X!

Thanks for your help guys, I hope there is someone out there who knows a solution!

Hi there,

So I cannot do anything to the drive.. It's as if it is just locked.

Any ideas to what might be the problem???

Thanks for your help,

hmmm,

Can you see the drive and partitions? If it's partioned you'll see "sub" disks under the main disk.

You say the Erase button won't become active?
