Alright, I'll just sum up the problem and story right here.
So deal is;
I've got an iMac (07), and a couple days ago, it had an internal hard drive failure, so I arranged an appointment at my closest Apple store. At the store the Tech-Guy told me I could just buy a new External Hard Drive, and re-install Mac OS X onto there, and use THAT hard drive, as the hard drive to run my whole computer on. So, I picked up a Western Digital "My Book: Studio Edition External Hard Drive" (as suggested) and brought it home.
I tried out my iMac again, and held the option key, as I recalled the Tech-Guy pressing to access the possible hard drives. When doing so, the only available option, was the Mac OS installation disc (which was left in the iMac). So I ejected the disc, and re-booted my iMac. When turning it on the next time, it was completely functional and all my files and programs were once again accessible. So in a heart-beat, I decided to back up all the files in case of a hard drive failure. Sure enough, 4 hours later, after backing-up the files and re-booting the iMac, the internal drive was no longer available.
So I at least had all my files backed-up, but I still wanted to USE my computer. So I connected my external hard drive and held the "Option" key during booting and all that appeared was the dreaded, "Folder with the ?" icon.
So I rebooted with the installation disc in the disc drive, remembering the Apple employee mentioning something about making a "partition", but I have no clue how to make the right sort of partition, that will let me run/install Mac OS X on it.
Some one please help me with some advice. I just bought quite the amount of recording equipment, and am very eager to get started. ^ ^P
