Hello, I have a 500G Maxtor HDD [external] installed on my PC. I need to put some files that I have on my ibook on my PC, so I want to plug in my HDD to my ibook, xfer the files onto it, then replug it in to the PC.

I plugged it into the ibook and it automatically came up, and I can see the files, but I can not WRITE to the disk.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks!

The disk is formated as NTFS. The easiest thing to do would be to format it as FAT32 (MS-DOS in OS X Disk Utility), which OS X can write to. You could also format the drive as HFS (OS X filesystem), and use MacDrive to access it from windows. The reason that OS X cannot write to NTFS is that Microsoft has not released the required information..

One downside with vFAT is that it can't store any single files with a size of over 4GiB, it is a problem if you want to store DVD images.
