External Hardrive Not Mounting

Hi All,

I purchased a Seagate External Hardrive for my G4 Powerbook last fall. Up until recently, everything was working properly. Now, when I plug in the external hardrive via firewire, I get a box that says, "the disk you insterted was not readable by this computer."

The last thing I used the external hardrive for was to transfer imovie files from my laptop to the hardrive. It was transfering data slower than usual, and I had problems ejecting the hardrive. After multiple attempts and a lot of yelling, I was forced to turn the hardrive off and unplug it without properly ejecting it.

Can someone please help me resolve this issue without erasing and reformatting?

Thanks in advance,
ATN

Welcome to MacOSX.com!

* Warning * This advice could possibly cause data los. **

The free way:
Go to /Applications/Utilities
You can also click on Finder (the smiley Mac guy in the Dock), click the "Go" menu at the top of the screen, and click on "Utilities". Then double-click on Disk Utility. Wait until all the disks are shown. Click on your external hard drive (if it's there) and click "Verify Disk"

The best way: buy Diskwarrior from Alsoft. If Diskwarrior can't fix it, likely nothing will.

Good luck!
