External Lacie dead ?

Hi there,
I've got 2 external Lacies. Whilst recording voiceover in Final Cut Pro 3 one of them 'died'. Hope it's not terminal? It's a d2 160 GB. 2 or 3 years old i guess - out of warranty I'm presuming. It's not making any noise at all and won't power up. All that happens is I get a flashing green light (that makes a clicking noise) on the power supply. I've tried alternative power supplies and firewire cables - didn't make any difference. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be ? Is it worth paying to have someone look at it ? Money might be better spent on a new one ? What about recovering the data ? Are lacies highly respected or is it common for them to 'die' ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The clicking gives me the impression that either the hard disk died ( the flashing green light and the clicking noise) or the firewire interface went belly up.

<Start Rant>Since I have been lurking in the board I have seen a large fair share of Lacies' hard drives die being posted. This is why I try to talk any computer user out of buying Lacies externals.<end rant>

Thanks Satcomer - the rant seems warranted - I've seen a lot of Lacie complaints, particularly about dodgy power sources. With mine the clicking is coming from the power source , the drive is dead quiet. I've tried an alternative power source so i'm thinking it might be the firewire interface - I've read a few complaints about that too.
