External Monitor Resolution Question

I recently bought a monitor that has 1920 X 1200 resolution. The same as my MacBook Pro.

Why is it that icons and windows are bigger in size when I put them up on the external monitor? They are nice and small on my Mac and get a lot larger when I move them over.

It seems that they should be the same exact size due to matching resolutions. What gives?

Thanks.

If both your internal and external displays are set at the same resolution, then they both have the same relative appearance. The difference that you see - is the difference in the physical screen size.
I'm guessing that you have a 17-inch MBPro.
The only way the external would be exactly the same icon size, window size, etc, is if that external is ALSO a 17-inch screen
So, I'm also guessing that your external display is about 24-inches?
The result is - On the larger screen size, with the same resolution, the screen will appear the same, but everything on the screen is larger because the screen itself is larger!
