F-key reprogramming

Hi,
I would like to reprogram the F12 key to be another DELETE key. I have searched the web and help files and can't find anything that helps.

Thanks for the assistance.

There are two relatively easy but iffy ways you could attempt this that I know of:

Go to System Preferences/Keyboard & Mouse/Keyboard Shortcuts, and add that command under All Applications.

Failing that, FunKeys X allows you to map Function and other keys. It is Shareware though, about twenty smackers. Of course you can demo it for a while to see whether you can live without it.

The only problem I can foresee is that by default, F12 = Eject. I used FunKeys to change it to something else and what happened was that while the new FunKey value did take, it continued to Eject as well. Not really a problem for me, though.

So I don't know what would happen if you tried to change the setting from Keyboard Shortcuts, if it would successfully override Eject or if it would warn you that there is a conflict with another key setting, as Delete is not on the default list of shortcuts. Another problem is that Keyboard Shortcuts is notorious for "disappearing" the settings you have added from its menu. While they continue to function, you might have a hard time changing them back once they have become invisible.

One little question: Why the heck do you want another delete key right next to "delete"?

Anyway, good luck.
