FaceTime muting

When my daughter calls me from her Iphone using FaceTime, my Imac (10.6.8) suddenly mutes on FaceTime. I can hear and see her but she can only see me, not hear me. When I click on the cancel mute button, nothing changes. In addition, the mute command under Video is grayed. What's going on? Do I need to reinstall FaceTime?

This is not Windows so stop thinking that way. To reset any OS X program just go to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and find the Preferences file for the malfunctioning program and throwing it out. In your case it would be /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.FaceTime.0017f2cbfb56.plist AND /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FaceTime.plist .

Throw those two files out and restart FaceTime. This should reset the program back to default. You will have to put your information back into the program but it should work.

Good Luck.
