fast user switching => multiple desktop

I am the only person using my tibook. So, basically the fast user switch thing is absolutely useless for me unless one could tell me how to use it as a multiple desktop switching such as in linux.
I thought of setting up users such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 without password, but how would I share the homedirectories so all users would use one? Is there any simple solution? Don't want to waste too much energy on this...

tnx!

tnx cybergroober.
That's what I am looking for.
But ain't there a way to do it with apples fast user switching?

You could setup multiple users, and in NetInfo manager set their home directory to all be the same. Then you can just select the user from the menu, and it will (hopefully) show a new desktop.

I haven't tried this so use at your own risk ;)

hmmmm, if you would have skipped your last sentence, you could have convinced me. Now I am kinda too suspicious. ;)
Anyone tried this before?

:D
I can only think of problems occuring if something tries to access a file at the same time, such as a preference file.

FileVault wouldn't work either.

Creating a user named "1" with no password kind of seems, hm..., risky to me. I wouldn't. Also, you'll run into several owner/permission issues, i.e. files don't belong to the user(s) etc.

I'd try one of the free-/shareware solutions. However, I haven't found any one to be very intuitive and still hope that Apple will make a good implementation in Mac OS X 10.x.

It shouldn't be a problem in a home environment, but yeah it is more of a risk then having a password. Just make sure you're not open to the internet. You could change the added users' uids to that of the first one, but again, there are things that could get messed up. It would be best to try on a machine that's not important to your everyday life.

Ok, I did try it and it works just fine. When they add the fast user switch effect for changing the desktops, I will be endlessly happy!

the cube effect? im using it right now :p

this is much better than previous multi-desktop apps :) very good!

huh?
You mean you are using it with switching between desktops? How do you handle the different users and permissions? Post it, post it, post it

he meant that the DESKTOP MANAGER app (linked above) has transitions between desktops, (there's like 8) and one is the cube. there's also xdisolve, slide, etc. pretty cool.

then you don't have to hassle with the permissions, and different users, etc.
I've tried DESKTOP MANAGER in the past and not liked it. but I think it's gonna stay now. it's sweet!
