Faxing with OS X and broadband?

I've never faxed off of Mac SO X (or anything else before), but suddenly my dad's wanting to use the all in one (scanner/copier/fax) to send and recieve faxes (he doesnt know if he'll use it, but he says he wants to know he CAN) to and from work. I know you can do this fairly easily on a dialup, but can you do it with DSL? The fax needs a dedicated phone number, I know that much...and from what I've seen online, it looks like you need it connected to a phone line via an RJ11 (standard phone line) jack...anyone know? I know most people will say to use e-mail, but he doesn't even know HOW, and I'm not sure that his work (he's a physician) supports e-mailing slides and whatnot...so far as I know, they fax, and that's all....any ideas? He wants to get a dialup connection in addition to the DSL...which seems like a waste of $40 a month to me ($20 for the service, $20 for the line), which he'll probably never use...any idea?

You can't fax over Broadband.
Most people in business have and use email. Learn to send the slides as files that way. If he has an email account, and if he has broadband he does, then he can send the slides as files.
