FCP 5 won't recognise firewise connection

When I open FCP 5, it tells me that it cannot detect the firewire connection (PAL) to my camera (canon xm2). My camera is connnected to the computer (Powermac G5) with the firewire that came with it, it's tuned on to Play mode, but I can't get the two to connect. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
 
flash back!!! I had this problem a long time ago, i'm trying to remember what the solution was. Do you have imovie? And can you see your camera from there?

Which Device Control settings do you use? Non-Controllable Device? Did you try to switch your firewire port?
