Where such (registration / serial number) info is stored is not system specific; but, application specific. That is, where the software publisher prefers to store it.
Some prefer within the associated '.plist' flle, others - within the application itself.
And some cleverly create the serial number file as an invisible document with clever names that have nothing to do with the application itself. It's quite amusing really, but annoying to say the least.
