File disappeared after copy

Last night I copied a large (360 megs) file over to my brothers iMac, using AppleTalk over TCP/IP. After the file transfer wuz complete, the file suddenly disappeared. We've been searching the entire HD for it, but it seems like the file is gone.

I don't know what happened, maybe someone else does.

Our config is:

my brothers iMac: OS 9.0.4, 256 megs ram, ADSL
my iMac: OS X 10.1.4, 256 megs ram, ADSL too
 
No, but i searched for it using Sherlock (I also searched for it as a invisible file). The disk space is also the same as it wuz before i copied the file, so i guess its really gone :(

I just wonder how this could happen. Im glad I did copy the file and not move it.
