i cannot login on my osx-box anymore! i'm not panicking(thank buddah, i backed up all my important data last night,) but currently i don't know how to proceed.

here is what happened: i was adding a user to my system. i didn't want this user to be able to see all my other volumes so i logged in as root and did: chmod -R 750 * at /

the result was the status that i see now when try to boot the machine: a blue screen.

i can start the machine pressing cmd-v which allows me to see that the volumes are not in the best possible state, but they can be mounted. then the blue screen appears and no login. sometimes the screen swiches to black and i see two lines before it swiches back to blue. it's way too fast to read what it says. i suppose aqua cannot be launched. is there a way to avoid the graphical login?

is there a tool that can fix file systems? what about norton disk doctor und 9.2?

thanks

thank you, i felt much better after reading your reply. after all it wasn't that bad.

repairing the system was easy and took just about two hours of running the os x installer and then updating to the newest versions. so far i had no side effects.

changing userpermissions is a delicate issue i would conclude.

what is the best way to globally change user permissions?

is there a safe way or is it time consuming manual work?

couzteau:)
