File timestamps (in seconds)

I was having a discussion with a friend about how apple uses timestamps on their file metadata.

I can't seem to find any data showing the seconds of when a file was modified/created/accessed.

Is there a trick to this or does apple not store seconds?

get info on a file or use the terminal and you only get a result with hours/minutes.
