File Type Error after Re-install

I installed Safari and Apple's X11, and my iMac started acting up. I was going to erase my drive and remove my partitions anyway, so I did. Before hand, I used PackageMaker to backup my data to my iPod, since PM uses a great compression (900 MB down to about 650 MB). After reinstalling and expanding with installer, I noticed that alot of the Applications have not been reigstered as apps; Get Info shows them as Documents. What can I do?

Hmm ... not that I've ever seen this problem, but perhaps you could open them from the terminal using the "open -a Application.app" command. This might tell the system it is an application, I think.

No dice. Once I get Classic back on I'll try ResEditing the file type/creator. I think I remember this little bug from before…
