Files recovery and repair

My eSata hard disk wend dead, crashed all of the sudden. It was for the media files only. I tryed to recover all the files with Data Rescue 3 and I was somehow sucessful. At least it appeard to be that way. But it wasn't. I recovered all the files...all the files are as big as they were before HDD crashed. The only problem is non of the file can be opened or used in any way. No program recognizes the files. Is there a way to somehow repair this files?
Was it problem with Data Rescue?

Data Rescue 3 will separate files in categories like office docs, pdfs, images, audio, etc..So pick the appropriate application for the type of file. Its not a problem with Data Rescue. There is the chance that from the drive failing it could have corrupted the data.
