i want to be able to mount a partition full of mp3s and whatnot on OSX, winxp, and linux

what file system should i use?

AFAIK, only FAT (16 or 32) partitions will be mountable by all those platforms. I could be wrong, though. . . .

yeah... fat32 will definitely be the easiest way to go for you

All three systems should simply -mount- the disk without trouble, and all support it very well.

On a sidenote, depending on what you want to do, you could take this route.

I just got a cool USB flash media "drive" which ranges in size from 16 MB to 1 GB, and it supported on all those platforms; XP, linux and OS X natively, Win 98/ME requires a driver which comes on a small CD or is downloadable.

www.universalsmartdrive.com no I don't work for them, just pleased with their technology. :p
