I was browsing on version tracker the other day and stumbled across a little utility called SilverKeeper, a freeware backup utility made by Lacie, it allows for multiple backupsets to be created and will copy over afp/smb shares, i checked it out and it seems pretty useful so i thought I'd just let you all know. You can get it here -> SilverKeeper

I remember when it first came out, there was some reason why i stopped using it, can't recall why at this time though.

Urbansory - If i recall correctly from reading from the release notes the initial release(1.0) had a whole bunch of problems with corrupting the disk or os, in the maitenance release(1.0.1) some of these problems were fixed plus some new features were added but scheduled backups were not implemented until this latest release(1.1) Hope that helps ya remember.

Thats all i can really think sorry i couldnt help, maybe another member had the same issue with it, they might be able to help? If it is something that could be problematic i would like to know though because im not too sure how much i want to trust my data with this program....

The old Silverlining disk utility used to do very bad things to certain disks.

I remember totally shafting an external hard drive while I was at college. I probably blamed one of the kids / plebs / gits from the year below ::evil::

Is Silverlining still around? Or is this SilverKeeper the same thing?..

SilverKeeper isn't really a disk utility but rather a backup utility, im not too sure what Silverlining was, i suggest you take a look at SilverKeeper if your in the market for a free backup utility, it seems pretty good.

Below I've included a screenshot from the makers website.
