Finder and ftp servers

Hi everybody,
I was seraching for a good free ftp client where I had the idea!
I tried with just writing the right URL (ftp://address.com) in the finder (Go->Connetc to server) it runs, but I have problems with permissions: every file is read-only mode,no matter the real permissions (i'm sure cause i usualy set some files to 777 permission, and i couldn't write at them).
Can you help me? do you know something about this problem with ftp server?
I'm using an ftp client but I think it would be fantastic to have ftp server integrated in finder.
Thanks a lot.

Hm... Can't say anything about ra3ndy's problem, but the first one's well-known. The Finder's current (and past) FTP support is limited to read-only. They seem to have not implemented it fully. Like they only wanted to have FTP for web-links in Safari, but didn't want to make FTP part of Safari, really. (Other browsers have a way of displaying FTP-directories, mostly read-only, too, although IE on Windows also can write to FTP in IE windows...) I _wish_ they'd fix that. It'd be easy enough, I think...

Yes, Finder ftp is read only and it's actually very slow when measured against good ftp clients.

If the web server supports WebDAV then you can establish a read/write connection via the finder and mount remote servers on the Desktop for drop and drag (iDisk is WebDAV).

But, again, Finder WebDAV is super slow compared to Transmit for example.

I do use Finder WebDAV for one thing though, backing up my accounting program every night. It automatically offers to write a backup each time you quit. So if I connect to the remote server before it wants to write that file it will automatically remember the last location it saved to and write the backup to the remote server.
