I have a late 2007 MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.6, 4 GB RAM and a serious problem.
My desktop has completely disappeared. When I boot all appears to boot normally but after everything appears normally everything disappears leaving me with an empty desktop, no menu bar, no dock and no desktop items. The only way out is to kill power.
I can boot from my emergency system and I have tried all the obvious things (removing com.apple.finder.plist, running Disk First Aid). I have also done an Archive and Install. Nothing has worked.
I am a semi-knowledgable user - not very experienced in the Unix shell. Are there any invisible files I should get rid of (I will need to know how to toggle invisibility) or anything els I should try? This is maddening!
Please help if you can. Thanks in advance-
Joel Pliskin
