recently my finder has been giving me problems; sometimes when I open a file it slows down & the rice grain loading wheel comes up. internet connection issues as well as a file sharing program keeps shutting down. I have tried to clear all caches & browsers as well as repair my disk permissions. Please help?

Rice grain loading wheel? You mean the spinning monochrome "clock-style" thing that appears when you shut down or boot up? Sounds like your Finder is crashing. Try Bob's suggestion.
