Finder Strangeness

My finder is being odd. Here's whats happening ....

I startup the machine and open a finder window. I select a directory to examine the contents - it's Directory1. It shows no contents! Doesn't matter how long I sit and look at it ... no contents. I click on Directory2 which also shows no contents! I click back on Directory 1 and now I can see the files etc. This then replicates right the way across the system. I can only view contents on 2nd click! I think it's affecting a couple of application but cannot be sure.

What on earth is causing this?!

I've booted up on another partition and run disc utility but the result is the same.

Thanks ...

So you've repaired permissions?

Have you tried it on another user account to see if the problem is global?

Also, when the directory has no files, what does it say at the bottom, where it says " X items, X GB available"?

I've repaired permissions.

It doesn't say anything at the bottom, it just spins around and around in 'busy' mode.

I'll try another user and see if that does anything.

Anyone know how do I trash the finder prefs?

To trash Finder's preferences:

Hard Drive->Users->Your User Name->Library->Preferences and throw out com.apple.finder.plist .

This will throw out Finder's preferences.
