Firefox causing stall

My computer started doing that thing where every 3-4 seconds the pinwheel spins and spins. I closed Firefox and am typing right now without problem with Safari.

I happen to like Firefox and have a lot of "stuff" set up.

How do I repair Firefox so it doesn't keep doing this stall, spin, stall spin? Thanks.

Open Firefox and disable any Firefox plugins. Then if Firefox then behaves, try each plugin one at a time and see which one is affecting the stall.

What I did do, before you responded, is go and LOOK at the plugins and extensions. And I removed a bunch I never use or needed anyway. And since then, we seem to be better. I was having problems with Word too (of course, that's an oxymoron), until I realized that it was FIREFOX in the background causing the pinwheel stall, and that the stall had nothing to do with Word. Launching Safari is what made me realize it was Firefox in the first place.

Thanks for the advice. I will do that instinctively from now on.

Speaking of plug ins, I have a housekeeping question for you:

I was looking in the Library/Internet plug ins and there was only one for Picasa...in the USER/name/library/internet plug ins. However, when I go to the Harddrive/Library/internet plug ins there are a bunch. How does something get loaded on either automatically?

That is to say, why is there two sets of folders for many things but, one set is in the USERNAME and one set is in the Harddrive. To make space couldn't one combine or delete? (I assume the answer is, "no, that would be a disaster now...", but perhaps at some setup stage?

For example, I know that one of my programs, a time tracking software I use for business, has the backups and folders in the USER/Applications instead of the HardDrive/Applications and it always causes problems when I try and use a template after an upgrade...because I look one place, and it's in the other.
