firewire and device control issues with X, not 9

I'm finding fewer input/output options in OS X 10.2.4's (on G4) Sound control panel that relate to my firewire video or a-to-d box... OS 9 no problem...OS X no option that I can find.

Programs/hardware confused include Final Cut Express and Bias' Deck & Peak, SONY DVMC-DA2 media converter.

Any help/advice/ridicule would be appreciated.
