Firewire Drive - Maxtor 250gb Not Mounting

Can't get firewire hard drive to mount. I upgraded to OS 9.1 to see if that helped (Maxtor drive min. req. is 9.1).
It still will not mount. Any suggestions?

How have your formatted the hard drive? HFS? HFS+? UFS?

I ended up ignoring what the Maxtor manual said and going to their web site and downloading the latest driver (extension) and threw on my machine and the drive mounted . Thanks for your input.
