Firewire Harddrive Problem

My roommate just installed Tiger on his 450Mhz Cube with a 1.2Ghz Sonnet upgrade processor. He did a clean install. Now his Western Digital 120gig Firewire drive spins non-stop, with the red light staying on the whole time. Only way to stop it, seems to be to unmount it.

Any thoughts? Worried about it overheating or just playing spinning itself to death.

Did he disconnect the firewire before installing? If not, then not so good. He should try updating the drive's firmware.

Agreed. The drive should have been disconnected during install.

Went to the WD site several times and couldn't find anything Mac or Firmware related.

He's thinking of going back to Panther anyway. Any chance of that fixing the problem?
